Sure, you may know all about your farm area but what if the inventory starts to dwindle and you need to look for alternatives to keep your buyers happy? By keeping tabs on the market and being reminded of areas you may have forgotten, this allows you to be a better agent. Besides, the marketing sessions are free to attend every week.

Through a recent workgroup session with the Marketing Madness Task Force in St. Lucie it was suggested that the association add an extra level of education to the program. Instead of just coming to have a bagel, network, and tour the area why not learn the history of the area in which we are to tour?

For example, let’s say that we are to tour downtown Fort Pierce area in an upcoming month. Typically the most we’d get out of the program is the market statistics and then a confirmation of the houses we are to tour. But what if there was a savvy agent that could present more information about the area?

The history … the highlights … the little known facts.

Through touring you learn about houses in the area that maybe you hadn’t considered but now you get a sneak peak at the history and culture. This is fabulous information that you could take back to your customers and look like a true professional when you tour the area. Just picture it, you’re driving to a listing and as you pass by buildings and streets you tell the history of the area. This is an added bonus for us young professionals because you’ll probably find that mature buyers are somewhat skeptical of a younger agent. But that myth is blown out of the water when we can speak knowledgeably about the area, the market trends, and homes for sale. Bring it on!

We’re looking to have our YPN group partner with the corresponding Realtors Associations to help put this project together. We need your help, insight, and energy.

The benefits:

• You make contacts – high-profile agents, historians, businesses, and possibly even community leaders
• You learn along the way by receiving first-hand information

For those familiar with the St. Lucie marketing session, this new educational piece will take the spot of the “special spot” or what used to be “positive points to ponder.”

The work:

• Meet once a month to prepare for the next month
• Identify the key questions we want our guest speakers to cover during their presentation
• Identify speakers who can present for the following month’s geographical areas
• Assist in preparing a powerpoint for the presenter if needed
• Potential to put a “white paper” together for members to keep handy: stats, history, facts, other important info

Each year our beloved affilates hold a Trade Show for the Realtors Association of St Lucie and for 2010 they were so gracious as to invite YPN to showcase our network. The theme was “Staying the Course to a Bright Horizon” and was a nautical theme. A big thank you to Victoria Conrad and Kathy Pierdes for dawning matching dresses with me and sitting at our booth to represent YPN!

We rounded up our YP members that were touring the trade show booths to get a group photo (below).

The Old Farts Network

We heard a lot of Realtors state “We’re too old for YPN” as they visited our booth. Following this trend, a few humorous Realtors opened up a “OFN” booth in the empty table next to us. Of course, OFN stands for Old Farts Network and spurred many laughs. These oldies joked that they were having raffles for pain meds, were going to host a wheelchair race, and that the best dressed member was one with the most stains on their outfit!

So maybe the buzz we created was a bit of a rival with the OFNs but at least we created some laughs and got the word out about YPN!
